Game Brainstorm
Game Brainstorm
1. For my first Idea I would be thinking of something a bit similar to the OG game flappy bird if anyone even still remembers that game. Its basically a game where a bird fly's through a series of obstacles and a score is counted for it. Each time the player clicks the bird would fly up a fixed amount, if the player didn't click the bird would fall downwards. So the only control was to keep clicking to keep the bird afloat. I would use the same concept with a twist. Whilst flying there is some sort of enemy shooting at you to make it much harder for the player. So now instead of just peacefully timing the next obstacle you now have bullets or lasers coming towards you that can also throw off your timing. This will be more of a strategic game. I am still to decide on a "Theme" for the game to base it maby on a star wars theme potentially I am still unsure but at least its a basis. Also instead of just having a boring counter that collects obstacles passed I might have it level based as I feel its more rewarding to a player instead of just going for a high score for the sake of it. In these type of games the game gets harder higher the score, so I feel like this is a better way of accomplishing this, it also allows for check points & saves so when the player dies they don't start from scratch if they don't feel like it. Its possible I could have a one life mode and another for checkpoints.

2. For my second game idea I was thinking something kinda like Grand theft auto china town wars style of game but with a massive twist so hear me out. I'm thinking something where the player has to drive around this 3d environment as say a taxi driver or something, basically they have some sort of objective to complete and it could be either a get from an a to b as fast as you can or it might even be a timed challenge. There however will also be obstacles in this such as cops and other traffic users. The other users will just be driving around the city to populate the environment but the cops how ever will chase you down if they see you as you are a "wanted taxi driver" or something. Now I know this is a lot more advanced than my last idea but Its just an idea after all. There would be a nice bit of work involved in making this come to life how ever. It wouldn't just be making the game actually work, there would be texturing of the environment and making say the scripts for the cops to chase you. The AI to drive around the map and the system that makes the main objectives work in the game its self. So there sure is a bit of work to do but its just an idea I might be over complicating it to

3. For my third game I was thinking something quite simple like the famous game "cookie clicker". Its quite a simple concept, to be totally honest its pretty much what it says on the title, You just click the cookie. Seriously that's it, you just click a cookie over and over as fast or as slow as you want to. You can even click it with your nose if you wanted to. The game has a counter that will keep track of your clicks and you can always try and beat your last record, that's if you have hours to spend getting to your last record that you spent trying to get to previously, you get the gist.
I was thinking of making a game with a similar concept but it would be two player, two player split screen to make it more competitive. The main game mode with consist of the two players clicking as fast as they can on the set of go to see who has the most clicks when time is up. Another version of this game could be that the players have to click the fastest to hit a set score. The final version of the game would be a little different. The players will be looking at a screen with no cookie on it, every few seconds a cookie will come up on screen and the players have to try beat each other to clicking it in order to gain a point. Personally having the game local split screen I think will make it far more competitive for all involved, especially since your opponent is physically right beside you and you are both eager to win the competition.

4. For my finial game idea I was thinking something along the lines of the mobile game "Smash Hit". With this game you basically are moving down a straight course and there are obstacles of glass that you have to shoot at to destroy them. If you end up hitting into the obstacles of glass it will fail the game and you will have to restart. The player only has a set amount of balls, if they end up wasting all their balls it will also fail the game on them. As you go through the level there will be shards of glass that are glowing these will be sort of hidden, some might be in the far right corner or up on the roof. If the player shoots these it will reward them with more balls to shoot at the glass. So basically you need to be careful not to 1. hit into any glass and 2. make sure you have enough balls. So for example don't go shooting like a mad man at a obstacle far away, wait for it to get closer that you can grantee the hit.
My version of the game will be quite similar except I might make the game a rhythm game, so it will be a mix of Smash Hit and another really popular game called beat saber. Each level will be based off a song, so for example the beat drop in Darude Sandstorm would be pretty heck tic to shoot all obstacles and still shooting enough glass to regain balls to keep going through until you finish the song. Each level will be based on a songs length so on average most levels will be about 2-3 minutes long

Hi Aaron I really like all of your ideas they seem very thought out and cool ! The game you're talking about how it is to player and you have to see who can click the fastest sound very fun. It seems like it could get very competitive as you said especially if you played it with a friend beside you. It sounds like it could pass a lot of time.
ReplyDeleteHi again Aaron , very detailed brainstorm , it was a great read. Haven't heard flappy bird in so long , was such a addicting game when it came out , maybe a futuristic theme would be pretty good . Level based is also a good idea , it seems more interesting than just a obstacle counter. The smash hit idea also sounds interesting, your remix of the game sounds really fun to play especially with the addition of a rhythm game . Looking forward to seeing what you end up creating .
