Game Elements

 Game Elements

So, when I started out researching for this particular blog post I decided to give a watch to a video called  Introduction to Game Design . Personally for me I'm more of a visual learner so when it comes to learning something I like to see it all in action and how its made to get a proper understanding of it rather than just reading it. The video goes on to explain that when making a game the best thing you can do is to just dive in and made a prototype first to see how everything is supposed to work, or you might discover that something wont actually work after all. Its always important as you go through the whole development stages of a game, to remember and remind your self what you set out to create in the first place, to not forget your design values.

When looking at some of the qualities of games, Critical analysis is quite important for developers as they can use this information relayed back to them to improve and make changes to the game. Developers need good information however, if someone just says I like the game because its fun to play. That doesn't tell the developers anything or give them anything to work with. When providing critical analysis for developers they like to get the most honest comments you can provide, so if say the game is good but it doesn't run that well and is quite laggy tell include that in your analysis, this will help the developers to then work out a way to improve this aspect of the game. That being said though, critical analysis is not just used in the game development industry, its used everywhere. For example say a team of planning developers for a new housing estate come up with the planning to make all the houses red brick, it would be best to get the opinion of some of the local people or other developers to see what they think or if they could provide a good alternative.

For me the publication called Game Design Research was very hard to follow, I get that it is quite an older publication but for me personally I was nearly falling asleep trying to pull information out of it. All in all however I do think that in terms of the elements of game developing and designing at the end of the day it all comes down to the end users experience. All the aspects such as the objectives of the game, the rules, the game state and the player interaction just to name a few are all very important in making a successful and engaging game.
