Game Fun
Game Fun
So for this week, week 8's reading task I was reading about "Fun" in video games and what it means to include fun into a game. One point that was brought up by Nicole Lazzaro was that there are four keys to fun. These are used to identify the different types of fun for different players, as not everyone playing a game is going to find "Fun" in the exact same thing.
First off there is whats called "Hard Fun". This is your traditional fun in many games where the player is challenged to complete a game. The challenge is the fun in the game, so say Geometry dash would be an example of "hard fun" the fun comes from completing complex and difficult levels that get harder as you go on.
Next there is "People Fun", this is more for the player or players who prefer their fun more from the actual players than the content within the game. An example of this would be party games such as say "JackBox.tv" for example. You can only really get the full "Fun" out of the game if you have people to play with.
Easy fun is the next type of "Fun" on the list, Easy fun is for the players who enjoy exploring the game and not being challenged to much. They might just enjoy a "Story" aspect of a game or just simply exploring the level within the game. An example I would give for this would be "Animal Crossing" this game doesn't have a story as such, but it doesn't have a direct challenge. You are free to explore the game and go at your own paste.
And lastly we have "Serious Fun". Serious fun would be the type of fun that comes from completing a set task in a game, as that's where the fun comes from. An example of this would be something like Call Of Duty, the fun in these games is "For me at least" playing the game seriously and concentrating on winning the game and completing challenges. You and your team mates have to work together with the same objective if you all want to succeed.
